Campus
MovieFest UK culminates on 4 December at Harold Pinter Theatre with
incredible prizes, great exposure opportunities, and special presenters
(LONDON,
ENGLAND) – 1 December, 2011 – Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s
largest student film festival, concludes its inaugural UK tour with the
CMF London Grand Finale on Sunday the 4th of December at 7pm
at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The Grand Finale showcases the top short
movies created by UK student filmmakers, with special presenters
awarding prizes including trips to Campus MovieFest Hollywood this
summer. Confirmed presenters include Oscar-winner Paul Franklin and
Emmy-winner Shohreh Aghdashloo.
CMF
has provided nearly 10,000 students in the UK over the past two months
with everything they needed to make five minute movies in a week all for
free – including Apple MacBook Pro laptops loaded with Final Cut Pro
and iMovie, Panasonic HDC-SD90 Full High Definition camcorders, and
support. Students participated in on-campus events at eight
universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, University of Westminster,
University of the Arts London, London School of Economics, University
College London, King’s College, and University of Sussex. In addition,
student filmmakers from dozens of other universities in the UK
participated online.
Seventy-five
of the top short movies will be screened at the CMF Festival Screenings
at the Odeon Mezzanine in Leicester Square on the 3rd of
December from 11am – 4pm. Then, the best of the best, selected by a
panel of industry judges, will be screened along with award
presentations at the Grand Finale the following night. Tickets are
available online at http://www.campusmoviefest.co. uk
“Ever
since we created CMF as students in 2001, it’s been our dream to share
the events, and we couldn’t be more excited by the UK tour’s response.
We’ve loved having the opportunity to provide UK students with the
latest Apple and Panasonic gear and training, and we can’t wait to now
showcase their creations on the big screen in London and worldwide,”
said David Roemer, Co-Founder of CMF.
During
the 2011-2012 CMF World Tour, CMF will visit over 75 colleges and
universities around the globe, providing all the necessary equipment and
training to nearly 100,000 students. The winners then come together at
Campus MovieFest Hollywood in
June 2012 for a weekend of workshops, screenings, networking events,
pitch meetings, and awards. Last year’s Hollywood events took place at
Warner Bros. Studios and Universal Studios, with industry luminaries
including Elizabeth Banks, Max Minghella, Jeff Goldblum, John Cho,
Gabourey Sidibe, Jack McBrayer, David Arquette, Kate Mara, and many
more.
Campus
MovieFest has provided exclusively Panasonic HD camcorders to CMF
participants for the past three years in the United States, and was
thrilled to continue working with Panasonic for its first UK Tour by
providing the HDC-SD90 camcorder to all Campus MovieFest UK
participants.
“Panasonic
is delighted to be working with Campus MovieFest and to be able to
engage young people in film making within the UK,” said Andrew Denham,
Marketing Director, Panasonic UK. “Each of the participants will be
able to use the latest Panasonic consumer camcorders to create a broad
range of films. We are looking forward to helping to identify new film
making talent and seeing these short films recognised through the
competition.”
CMF
began eleven years ago when four students at Emory University in
Atlanta, GA USA, provided fellow students with everything they needed to
make movies in one week. Since then, more than 500,000 students have
received all the necessary technology and training to tell their stories
for free thanks to corporate partners and universities. Past winners
have walked away with over £1 million in prizes and seen their films on
the big screens at CMF events worldwide, at Cannes, the major studios,
and on millions of smaller screens including mobile devices, in-flight
on Virgin America, and online.
